Recital se­ries dances to end

RENOWNED Aus­tralian pian­ist Ti­mothy Young will join artis­tic di­rec­tor Stewart Kelly for the fi­nal con­cert of this year’s sea­son of the Ma­son and Ham­lin Recital Se­ries on Sun­day. The pres­ti­gious lo­cal clas­si­cal mu­sic con­certs are pre­sented by The Arts Cen­tre Gold Coast and pi­ano spe­cial­ists Ma­son & Ham­lin Aus­tralia. Young is re­turn­ing to the cel­e­brated lo­cal clas­si­cal mu­sic con­cert af­ter a breath­tak­ing sell-out show to open the se­ries ear­lier this year. An ex­traor­di­nar­ily ver­sa­tile ac­com­pa­nist, Young is head of pi­ano stud­ies at the Aus­tralian Na­tional Academy of Mu­sic. He and Ma­son and Ham­lin Recital Se­ries artis­tic di­rec­tor Kelly, a ma­jor emerg­ing artist in his own right, have per­formed to­gether for the past three years and prom­ise a fes­tive pro­gram of dance mu­sic for their end-of-year con­cert. The pro­gram opens with the duo per­form­ing Ravel’s mag­i­cal La Valse on two grand pi­anos. The pair will then play the time­less mu­sic of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and the con­cert will come to a head with Rach­mani­nov’s fi­nal com­po­si­tion, the vir­tu­osic Sym­phonic Dances.
