The ever-popular Muppets make their return to the big screen in time for the school holidays and there’s plenty to tempt adults into cinemas too
Pacific Fair, Yatala, Australia Fair, Robina, Coolangatta, Nerang: Based on the bestselling novel by Veronica Roth, Shailene Woodley stars as Tris, a teenager living in a postapocalyptic Chicago, who learns she is Divergent – meaning she doesn’t belong to one of the five factions society is now divided into, and that makes her dangerous. Actionadventure also stars Kate Winslet, Theo James, Ashley Judd and Aussie Jai Courtney, it’s directed by Neil Burger ( Limitless).
THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL (M)
The Arts Centre Gold Coast, Pacific Fair, Australia Fair, Robina, Coolangatta, Nerang: The latest from director Wes Anderson recounts the tale of legendary concierge Gustave H (Ralph Fiennes), who worked at the famous Grand Budapest Hotel with his trusted lobby boy Zero during its heyday between the two world wars, when he was framed for murder. Also starring, among others, Jason Schwartzman, Adrien Brody, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Saoirse Ronan and Tilda Swinton.
MUPPETS MOST WANTED (G)
Pacific Fair, Australia Fair, Robina, Coolangatta: In this follow-up to the 2011 comedy, the Muppets set off on a grand world tour with their new agent Dominic Badguy (Ricky Gervais), but unknowingly are caught up in a jewel heist when they don’t realise Kermit the Frog has been replaced with a dastardly criminal lookalike. Directed by James Bobin, it also stars Tina Fey, Ty Burrell and all your favourite Muppets.
ALL IS LOST (M)
The Arts Centre Gold Coast: J. C. Chandor wrote and directed this American survival film about a man’s battle for survival against the elements after his sailboat is destroyed at sea. Robert Redford is the only cast member in this gripping open-water thriller. Musical score by Alex Ebert (Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros).
