Mermaid Beach TV presenter Natalie Gruzlewski an expert at spotting the spark that turns into enduring love. Single friends have benefited from a matchmaking talent honed over eight series of The Farmer Wants a Wife, but the uncanny accuracy of her romance radar came to light during filming for When Love Comes to Town. As host of the new Channel 9 reality series she says she witnessed moments that, if not exactly love at first sight, came close. "The instant connections are unmistakable and they are the exciting ones to watch. The chemistry is there - it's evident straight away - then you see the relationships develop," she says. Natalie believes that, just like online dating, reality romance has become a valid vehicle for finding "the one". In When Love Comes to Town that vehicle is a bus, carrying 12 single city girls 10,000km on a nationwide search for their soulmate. "A lot of these girls have been unlucky in love. They've online dated, they've tried the traditional thing of going to bars to meet a guy. This is 2014 and dating is very different," Natalie says. "(Reality TV) is just another platform where you can meet people. I've seen couples form Farmer go on to marriage, to have families and find their happily ever after." Natalie says her hosting role was more hands on in the new show and baby Olivia, who turned one in February, was along for the ride. "There was no way I was leaving her at home - and we had a ball," Natalie says. "It was such an adventure to see these beautiful, often remote, towns scattered acrosss Australia and be with the girls every step of the way. "You become friends and you become emotionally invested - like any mate, you want to see them happy." And for a model of what that looks like, the girls need look no further than the host. Natalie married property developer Jack Ray in 2012 and is relishing being back in her hometown and her work-life balance -restoring return to Nine Gold Coast News. Her big, warm smile, always at the ready, says it all. "I'm loving life because I have the best of both worlds," she says.
