Yours Truly fi­nally caught up with Gold Coast Lit­tle The­atre’s The Pa­jama Game on Sun­day, with a to­tally full house! The show is bright, tune­ful and to­tally en­joy­able – a tri­umph for all con­cerned. It runs un­til De­cem­ber 6. Open­ing last week­end was Bal­lina Play­ers’ High So­ci­ety, the Cole Porter mu­si­cal. The show is based on the Cary Grant and Katharine Hep­burn film The Philadel­phia Story, and was re­made star­ring Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly. Al­ways glam­orous, the show runs ’til Novem­ber 30. Javeen­bah The­atre’s Five Women Wear­ing the Same Dress opens this week­end and lo­cal the­atre party or­gan­iser Doreen Hin­ton has a se­ries of group book­ings avail­able at dis­counted prices. Call her on 0403 810 940 to join in. The show is a com­edy about brides­maids – it’s a very funny play di­rected by Dawn China. Still with Javeen­bah, the company in Nerang will be get­ting into the fes­tive spirit a lit­tle early this year at its an­nual 2014 Christ­mas Quiz Night on De­cem­ber 9. It’s the fifth trivia quiz night the the­atre has held, with each event sell­ing out and rais­ing a col­lec­tive $5000 for the the­atre. There will be fan­tas­tic prizes for the win­ning team as well as raf­fles to be won. The event is $10 per per­son and in­cludes plenty of fin­ger food, Christ­mas cake, rum­balls and en­trance into the trivia quiz. The bar will also be open with well-priced drinks avail­able. All funds will be do­nated back to the Javeen­bah The­atre Company to con­trib­ute to­wards up­grad­ing their com­mu­nity fa­cil­i­ties. The event kicks off at 6.30pm sharp. Have you heard of The Golden Mon­key Mys­tery? Join Cap­tain Jack and his pi­rate crew on a jour­ney amid per­ilous dan­gers for the Golden Mon­key Statue; visit mer­maids of the deep, wit­ness swash­buck­ling sword bat­tles and see mes­meris­ing magic. Set­ting sail from De­cem­ber 1315, there will be two shows daily at 10am and 2pm. Per­form­ing at Gold Coast Lit­tle The­atre. Tick­ets are avail­able on­line for $17 and at the door for $20. Or­ches­tral and choral wishes are de­liv­ered with Christ­mas cheer with the Gold Coast Phil­har­monic Orches­tra’s Christ­mas Wish con­cert on Novem­ber 29 at 7.30pm and Novem­ber 30 at 2.30pm. Held at the Queens­land Acad­e­mies The­atre, Ed­mund Rice Drive, South­port, the con­cert in­cludes or­ches­tral clas­sics from Nutcracker Suite, Christ­mas favourites with guests Coastal Charisma and star­ring the 2014 Youth Con­certo Per­for­mance Op­por­tu­nity re­cip­i­ent Os­car Wong on pi­ano per­form­ing Schu­mann’s Pi­ano Con­certo with the orches­tra. Tick­ets are $25 for adults, $23 for con­ces­sion­aire and $5 chil­dren aged five to 15. Ticket price in­cludes wine and cheese on ar­rival to the Satur­day evening con­cert and re­fresh­ments at in­ter­val for both con­certs.
