PAJAMA GAME A DELIGHT
The Gold Coast Little Theatre’s production of The Pajama Game, an American musical theatre classic, is a sure-fire crowd pleaser
Yours Truly finally caught up with Gold Coast Little Theatre’s The Pajama Game on Sunday, with a totally full house! The show is bright, tuneful and totally enjoyable – a triumph for all concerned. It runs until December 6. Opening last weekend was Ballina Players’ High Society, the Cole Porter musical. The show is based on the Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn film The Philadelphia Story, and was remade starring Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly. Always glamorous, the show runs ’til November 30. Javeenbah Theatre’s Five Women Wearing the Same Dress opens this weekend and local theatre party organiser Doreen Hinton has a series of group bookings available at discounted prices. Call her on 0403 810 940 to join in. The show is a comedy about bridesmaids – it’s a very funny play directed by Dawn China. Still with Javeenbah, the company in Nerang will be getting into the festive spirit a little early this year at its annual 2014 Christmas Quiz Night on December 9. It’s the fifth trivia quiz night the theatre has held, with each event selling out and raising a collective $5000 for the theatre. There will be fantastic prizes for the winning team as well as raffles to be won. The event is $10 per person and includes plenty of finger food, Christmas cake, rumballs and entrance into the trivia quiz. The bar will also be open with well-priced drinks available. All funds will be donated back to the Javeenbah Theatre Company to contribute towards upgrading their community facilities. The event kicks off at 6.30pm sharp. Bookings are essential and tickets can be pre-ordered from Dawn on 0413 666 815 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org Two well-known local actors, Sean Curran and Brady Mayer, have written and directed a new show about pirates, mermaids, monkeys and magic. Have you heard of The Golden Monkey Mystery? Join Captain Jack and his pirate crew on a journey amid perilous dangers for the Golden Monkey Statue; visit mermaids of the deep, witness swashbuckling sword battles and see mesmerising magic. Setting sail from December 1315, there will be two shows daily at 10am and 2pm. Performing at Gold Coast Little Theatre. Tickets are available online for $17 and at the door for $20. Orchestral and choral wishes are delivered with Christmas cheer with the Gold Coast Philharmonic Orchestra’s Christmas Wish concert on November 29 at 7.30pm and November 30 at 2.30pm. Held at the Queensland Academies Theatre, Edmund Rice Drive, Southport, the concert includes orchestral classics from Nutcracker Suite, Christmas favourites with guests Coastal Charisma and starring the 2014 Youth Concerto Performance Opportunity recipient Oscar Wong on piano performing Schumann’s Piano Concerto with the orchestra. Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for concessionaire and $5 children aged five to 15. Ticket price includes wine and cheese on arrival to the Saturday evening concert and refreshments at interval for both concerts. Book online at goldcoastphilharmonic.com or by phoning 5539 6076.
