DRESSED FOR SUCCESS
Now on and running until December 6 is Javeenbah Theatre’s latest colourful comedy, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress
Opening this week was Javeenbah Theatre’s Five Women Wearing the Same Dress –a comedy play about weddings. It runs until December 6 – book on 5596 0300. No other openings on the Coast community theatre scene, but Gold Coast Little Theatre continues its successful run with The Pajama Game, Ballina Players with High Society, Tugun Theatre Company with It Runs in the Family and Beenleigh Theatre Group with Calamity Jane. Voices in Paradise have announced an upcoming event for choir directors called Voices In Paradise: Choir Directors Workshop. The event will be held at Griffith University Gold Coast campus on February 22, 2015. Participants will receive directing education by award-winning directors, view performances by Pan Pacific youth champions Blenders Youth Chorus, get a better understanding of local production techniques for harmony singers and more. This is an ideal way to boost your directing skills and stay up to date on all modern trends in the a cappella world. The Man in Black will descend on Jupiters Casino tomorrow night. I saw this show some years ago in Brisbane and it’s a cracker. The man, the music and the legend that is Johnny Cash will be brought to life when Tex Perkins rolls into town for three shows only. The two-hour spectacular explores Cash’s complex life from his journey to the top and untimely fall from grace to his ultimate redemption. Tex Perkins, one of the most electrifying front men of Australian rock ’n’ roll, brings the infamous country legend to life, and leads The Tennessee Four in a not-to-be missed night of memorable music. Nominations for this year’s Gold Coast Area Theatre Awards were released at midnight Monday last. A host of actors, set designers, costume makers and directors, musical directors and vocal directors will be honoured at the nominees’ cocktail party and presentation night at The Arts Centre Gold Coast next Tuesday and December 16 respectively. It’s interesting to see the popularity of certain productions over others; great to see young people taking part in local shows and moving forward into professional careers in show business. Watch this space for more news on the major events! Yours Truly is off this weekend to see La Cage aux Folles from the Production Company in Melbourne – a fabulous musical starring the great Australian talents of Todd McKenny, Simon Burke and Rhonda Burchmore. We hear that the brilliant Tony Sheldon is Australia-bound again soon to perform in Man of La Mancha – don’t miss it.
