Local artist Candice Skjonnemand will help spread the Christmas cheer in a quintessentially Gold Coast way this weekend. The former The Voice Australia star is part of the line-up for the annual Carols on the Beach event at Surfers Paradise.

Performing classics like Oh Holy Night, Winter Wonderland and Santa Clause is Coming to Town, Candice says she cherishes the magic of the festive season.

“The excitement of people everywhere is my favourite thing – everybody seems so full of energy at Christmas time,” she says.

“Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas would have to be my favourite carol because it is such a beautiful song.”

Candice, a singersongwriter and music producer, featured on The Voice this year as a member of Team Kylie.

On Sunday, she will be joined by Paradise Kids Choir, Rachael Beck, Maske, Fiagro and special guest host Jay Laga’aia for the beachside Christmas spectacular.

“Combining our city’s best asset – the beach – with our best qualities – entertainment, celebration and tourism of Surfers Paradise – it’s sure to be the most ‘Gold Coast’ Christmas event,” says Candice.

“I’m excited – I’m yet to sing on a beach, so I can tick that off the list!”

Reflecting on a busy year that has just passed, Candice says she learnt a lot from her time on The Voice. She says having the chance to be mentored by Kylie Minogue was “a gift and an honour”.

“I enjoyed the platform it gave me, meeting the other contestants and working with incredible musicians, wardrobe stylists and hair and make-up artists,” she says.

Candice released her latest EP Becoming an Artist in October and hopes to start recording her debut album in January. Candice Skjonnemand, Carols on the Beach, Surfers Paradise, Sunday.
