NO BLOCK BETWEEN FRIENDS
Dan Reilly has a new BFF and it is The Block: Triple Threat foreman Keith Schleiger.
That is a big turnaround from the days when Reilly, 31, and partner Dani Wales were contestants on season five of The Block and the following year’s The Block: All Stars.
Reilly and Schleiger locked horns during those two series but now all is forgiven.
Reilly, a carpenter and now certified builder, is Schleiger’s assistant on The Block: Triple Threat and the pair are getting on like a house on fire.
Reilly’s official title is ‘‘foreboy’’ which basically means he has helped Schleiger get the former 1970s apartment block in Melbourne’s ritzy South Yarra ready for its TV renovation.
Like Schleiger, Reilly will have to talk tough to contestants who flout building regulations.
“On The Block: All Stars I got a builder who caused a bit of friction between Keith and I and we had a few dust-ups,” Reilly says. “It got verbal at times.
‘‘We nearly went toe to toe at one stage.
‘‘Later, we went for a beer at the local pub and said ‘What the heck were we doing?’.
“It wasn’t until I started doing this job that I realised how hard his role is.
‘‘It is not a fun thing coming into a near-complete room and telling someone that it has been done wrong and they’ve got to rip it up and redo it.”
Last year’s The Block: Glasshouse nearly destroyed Schleiger. The 1980s former office block in Prahran needed a whopping 120 tonne of steel reinforcement before renovations could start.
Reilly will ease some of that pressure but Schleiger wonders if his charge will be a softie.
“Dan’s been through it all before and (because of that) I suspect he will be a bit softer on the contestants that I am,” he says.
