Mur­willum­bah’s rein­ter­pre­ta­tion of Mac­beth will give au­di­ences a provoca­tive view of one of Shake­speare’s darker works

Mur­willum­bah Theatre Com­pany is gear­ing up for a thought­pro­vok­ing pre­sen­ta­tion of Mac­beth by the renowned Bell Shake­speare Com­pany next Thurs­day. Mac­beth: Un­done is an en­ter­tain­ing yet crit­i­cal de­con­struc­tion of Shake­speare’s fa­mous tragedy, ex­pos­ing the in­ner work­ing of the Scot­tish play. The pro­duc­tion fol­lows the jour­ney of Shake­speare’s great power cou­ple, Mac­beth and Lady Mac­beth, from am­bi­tion to de­struc­tion in an at­mo­spheric and thrilling ren­di­tion of the Scot­tish play. Bell Shake­speare, a theatre com­pany ded­i­cated to pro­duc­ing the plays of The Bard, this year cel­e­brates 25 years as one the world’s most cel­e­brated theatre com­pa­nies. Mac­beth: Un­done will be staged at the Mur­willum­bah Civic Cen­tre on April 23 at 7.30pm. Please note this is an abridged, ex­ploratory in­ter­pre­ta­tion, not a full pro­duc­tion. Set to be a grand bash at the South­port Yacht Club, there will be en­ter­tain­ment from many of the group’s past and present per­form­ers. The Ade­laide Cabaret Fes­ti­val has an­nounced its line-up for June – it’s al­ways world-class en­ter­tain­ment. With Barry Humphries at the helm as artis­tic direc­tor, the fes­ti­val opens on June 5 (Queen’s Birth­day Week­end). It will fea­ture The Tap Pack, Christa Hughes, Meow Meow, Paris Combo and Peter & Jack (pay­ing trib­ute to bari­tone Peter Daw­son and song­writer Jack O’Ha­gan).
