Afeel-good show with a greater purpose, the Mamas and Papas have become an avenue for understanding.

California Dreaming – The Music of the Mamas and the Papas was created by Margaret and Terry Fisk with the idea of helping Defence families needing support.

Fisk says after heading up the Defence Special Needs Support Group for 20 years, she has seen the impact of physical and psychological wounds.

“It affects partners too ... there’s many who are looking after special needs children and then have to look after their spouse, and it’s not what they signed up for,” she says. “So with this show we simply wanted to say there’s a story in the forefront, not related to the music, but to create an awareness.”

The show will ask for donations to Soldier On, assisting Defence families.

It is a fly-in, fly-out tour fitting the regular schedules of the singers, some of whom are teachers. The Fisks are Mamas and Papas tragics, and wanted to get the group’s story out to new fans. Audiences will hear all the songs that were either written or sung by the group. In a concert with a twist, it is set on a stage reminiscent of the Ed Sullivan Show.
