The Friends of the Arts Cen­tre Gift Fund will present cel­list Stephanie Li and flautist Jonathan Hen­der­son, both re­cip­i­ents of the Gift Fund’s Bev­erly McIl­wain Schol­ar­ship, in con­cert on Septem­ber 2 from 6pm at the Par­adise Show­room at the Arts Cen­tre Gold Coast. The pair are on a brief visit home from their Euro­pean stud­ies. Tick­ets are $15. Phone 5588 4000. The Gold Coast re­gion is packed with sur­prises, so why not head down the high­way a few miles for a Month of Mu­sic at Tyal­gum. The fes­tiv­i­ties kick off on Septem­ber 5 with a con­cert given by 2015 Grammy Award win­ning com­poser and pi­anist Fiona Joy, who re­turns to Tyal­gum to per­form in Flut­ter­bies’ Lit­tle Shop Next Door with Amer­i­can flautist Sherry Finzer. This ex­cit­ing new con­cert is bound to in­spire the vil­lage’s sea­son of melodies in the week lead­ing up to the Tyal­gum Mu­sic Fes­ti­val from Septem­ber 11-13, which cel­e­brates its 24th year with a dy­namic pro­gram of new con­certs, events and pop-up venues. Tick­ets are $35. heart­saflame­pro­duc­tions.com Diehard Queen fans re­joice – the leg­endary rock group Queen an­nounced the world­wide smash hit mu­si­cal We Will Rock You will re­turn to Aus­tralia for a na­tional tour in 2016. The show is based on the songs of Queen with a book by Ben El­ton. El­ton (who will also di­rect the new Aus­tralian pro­duc­tion) fash­ioned this hi­lar­i­ous fu­tur­ist com­edy around more than 24 of Queen’s big­gest hit songs in­clud­ing We Are The Cham­pi­ons, Ra­dio Ga Ga, I Want To Break Free, Some­body To Love, Killer Queen, Don’t Stop Me Now, Un­der Pres­sure, Bo­hemian Rhap­sody, Another One Bites The Green­room Pro­ject Ju­nior makes its Bris­bane de­but these school hol­i­days with its fo­cus on dis­cov­er­ing a new breed of mu­si­cal theatre stars. Stu­dents aged 9-17 years have the chance to take part in a three­day per­for­mance work­shop and then show­case their tal­ents live on stage at Bris­bane Pow­er­house.
