Brother and sister team Luke and Ebony are returning cast members for the new The Block after a brief appearance on Triple Threat
As an electrician and an interior designer, returning contestants WA siblings Luke and Ebony have a distinct headstart on the new season of The Block.
The duo are the only returning cast members on the 11th season of the Nine Network series, which starts on Sunday, September 6.
Yet Ebony has played down their experience and professions, saying they only have a small edge on their opposition because their time on The Block Triple Threat was brief.
“We had a week of The Block experience ... so we had met the crew and did have some idea of the running of the schedule and the process,” Ebony says.
“We didn’t do The Block on this scale and that was still very scary coming into it so we knew a little bit more than other contestants.”
Another small but significant advantage for the WA team, is that being siblings there is no chance of a lover’s quarrel or having to worry about a marriage breakdown.
But they do have their moments, says Ebony who admits to breaking down while renovating their assigned apartment in the South Yarra motel.
“You will see tears on my part and words of frustration ... there won’t be much beeping (out words),” Ebony says. “We don’t have the added pressure of being in a relationship or that we are newly dating or newly married and have never renovated.
“We were sharing a bedroom for three months so we did have that pressure.”
This season’s apartment block is octagonal and each level must be transformed into a 225sq m apartment with 360-degree views.
Luke and Ebony are the only siblings among the five teams which include a pair of single mums and a couple who met on Tinder.
Busselton siblings Ebony and Luke will represent WA in The Block’s new season.
