Top Hat Productions are bringing the fabulous world of Noel Coward and his lifelong pal Gertrude Lawrence to life in a musical treat
In rehearsal on the Gold Coast are Top Hat Productions’ Cocktails with Noel & Gertie – A Marvellous Party! It’s a musical celebration of the wit, music and people in the life of the century’s most talented gay artiste – Noel Coward and his lifelong friend Gertrude Lawrence. Also in rehearsal are Javeenbah’s Forbidden Broadway, an irreverent look at the big stars and shows of the past few years; Neptune Theatre’s Christmas at Hartford Hall and GCLT’s Dimboola Spotlight’s The Boy from Oz. Also in rehearsal are Yours Truly and double-Mo Award winner Kirri Adams, who will appear for one show only at the Arts Centre’s Basement with their new cabaret show, Two Redheads in Search of a Match! Book on 5588 4000 (the show is half sold already). Date is Saturday, November 21, at 7.30pm. Currently playing are Tugun Theatre’s Gaslight, Phoenix Theatre’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Tweed Theatre’s 12 Dancing Princesses. Great funding opportunities for local theatres and theatre practitioners ... My sources tell me that the powers that be are reformulating and expanding the RADF committee (Regional Arts Development Fund) which allocates grants. New members of the committee are being sought. Also early next year the council will be announcing a three-year round of funding to link to the Commonwealth Games. It appears there will be a three-year rolling fund of $30,000 given in each year in the lead-up to projects for the Games. Opera Eagle’s Nest, in association with Gold Coast City Council, present a series of concerts at Helensvale Cultural Centre from September 4 to November 6. Kick-starting the season is their zany A Night at the Opera with two shows on September 4. It promises to be a morning/ evening of great singing and loads of laughs. Dressing Roomers hears that a kind Gold Coast theatre fan wishes to make a donation of two naval officers’ uniforms and one black suit with a monogrammed coat pocket. Contact email@example.com Moonlight and Magnolias, Ballina Players latest production, takes a comic look at the behind-the-scenes birth of one of the most beloved and successful films of all time. Hollywood director David O. Selznick is determined to turn the epic novel Gone with the Wind into a great movie. He sacks his writer and goes into lockdown for one week with producer Victor Fleming and sought-after screenwriter Ben Hecht. They must produce a script in that time with a writer who has not read the book. Ron Hutchinson’s Moonlight and Magnolias, which is based on real events, explores the week’s chaos.
