TAKE A TRANCE
HYPNOTIST KEITH BARRY AND HOST DARYL SOMERS MESMERISE IN THE NAME OF CASH AND COMEDY
Hey Hey It’s Saturday star Daryl Somers says he remains open to working with former co-host Jo Beth Taylor should the show return.
Somers says Nine Network’s director of television Michael Healy approached him about reprising Hey Hey It’s Saturday.
Part of the talk included an anniversary special for the show which started in 1971.
The subject was raised after Somers signed on to host new family show You’re Back in the
Room, which launches on Sunday. The show is about people doing hilarious things under hypnosis.
“Michael is the one who approached me ... ’would you still think of
Hey Hey. It’s 45 years this year and it’s 60 years of television, so there is reason to revisit it and do a special’,” Somers says. “Firstly we are doing Back In
The Room and if Nine is hot to trot, we’ll do a Hey Hey or two.”
Somers says his mentor Ernie Carroll, the man behind (and inside) Ossie Ostrich on
Hey Hey It’s Saturday, is also up for another stint.
“He’s 86 and I love Ernie ... He’d be up for it.”
Just who would be Somers’ offsider – he had several during the show’s 28-year consecutive run, including Taylor – would depend on availability.
Somers is still keen to work with or alongside Taylor despite her labelling her former boss “egocentric” when she appeared on I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out
Of Here! this year. He says he has since spoken with Taylor and her words did not dent a solid relationship.
“She said she spent 20 minutes saying all the great things you have done for me and all the other people blah, blah blah, and they just picked on a couple of things ... and turned it into a negative.
“I said, ‘I know how these things happen and don’t even
think about it’.”
