Siblings Jimmy Wong and Theresa Visintin are disappointed that neither of them managed to go further in the current season of MasterChef
From the comfort of her couch, MasterChef didn’t appear too daunting to Theresa Visintin, who was evicted from the reality show this week.
The 44-year-old mum-of-three was eliminated from the reality cooking show on Monday after the dish she prepared for an afternoon tea challenge missed some essential elements.
She now says she and her brother – fellow contestant Jimmy Wong, who was sent home last week – thought they’d do better.
“You sit on the sofa in the comfort of your home and you’re like, ‘Oh, I could bake that’,” Theresa says.
“It was definitely a lot harder than I expected. (But) I do believe that we had it in us to have gone further.”
Theresa plays down the sibling rivalry with her older brother, 49, who in one episode told judge George Calombaris he was the better cook. “I love it,” she laughs. “He’s a lot more candid than I am, I’m probably a bit more diplomatic.”
Theresa says the excitement of sharing the
MasterChef journey with Jimmy was huge.
“We never really thought of rivalry, but we did have a discussion,” she says.
“We made an early pact that regardless of who was going to be fighting an elimination, you just do your best cooking.’’
Theresa, 44, is based in Vancouver with her three teenage children for her husband Daniel’s work, but she has stayed on a bit longer to gain work experience at top Sydney restaurants, including Nel and at KOI with 2015
MasterChef contestant Reynold Poernomo, before heading home.
“My husband just said to me, ‘Do it ... just make sure you don’t have any regrets’,” she says.
MasterChef, tonight, 7.30pm on Network Ten
