9.30PM, ONE MA. 2005. An appropriately brutal adaptation of a Marine’s pre-Desert Storm experiences in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. The firstperson account ticks boxes with its acting and cinematography but lacks any real emotional depth. Stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Fox, who are each impressive.
8.30PM, ELEVEN M. 1998. Director Gus Van Sant’s pointless remake of Psycho neither improves nor illuminates Alfred Hitchcock’s original masterpiece, which is now immortal for its contribution to the horror genre. Not bad for a night in though.
SNAKES ON A PLANE
10.50PM, 9GO! M. 2006. An FBI agent takes on a plane full of deadly snakes deliberately released to kill a witness being flown to testify against a mob boss. A slick action flick that is not meant to be taken seriously. Stars Samuel L. Jackson and Julianna Margulies.
