Our young musical theatre artists are set to shine in Sydney, meanwhile local stages are facing a busy schedule of rehearsals
The Rob Guest Endowment Committee has announced that the 2016 Rob Guest Endowment Grand Final Concert will take place on November 14 at the Sydney Lyric Theatre. The concert will be a night of exhilarating musical entertainment as six young musical theatre artists perform live and compete to win the $20,000 cash prize. Supported by a live professional orchestra, they will perform alongside some of Australia’s most loved stars. The six finalists for this year’s award are Du Toit Brendenkamp (currently performing in The Sound of Music), Hilary Cole (soon to open in Kinky Boots), Linden Furnell (Kinky Boots), Stephanie Jones (The Sound of Music), Genevieve Kingsford (The Light in the Piazza) and Matthew Predny (Kinky Boots). Tickets for this year’s Gala Concert will go on sale October 4 via Ticketmaster.
Gold Coast Little Theatre has announced a major Christmas concert for its end of year celebrations, and the night will include the drawing of a super raffle. Tickets will be sold from November 4 and throughout the season of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. The theatre is asking for donations of goods or services. All proceeds are going to the theatre and will be acknowledged in the concert program. The Queensland Cabaret Festival 2017 is seeking artist submissions until November 4. It promises to be a mix of the best cabaret artists who’ll perform in June .
The Brisbane Premiere of KOOZA, to be held under the Big Top at Skygate Brisbane Airport, will take place on November 24.
The Association of Community Theatre Conference will take place in Sydney this weekend at NIDA. Many representatives of local companies will be attending along with representatives from hundreds of community theatres around Australia.
Auditions for the first show at Gold Coast Little Theatre in 2017, Back to the 80s, will be held at Showbiz Express on November 6. Auditionees need to prepare 32 bars from a song from the 1980s. Casting information is available on the Back to the 80s Facebook page, which includes a link to the Awesome Audition event.
Yours Truly caught the GC Jazz & Blues Club’s show last Friday night featuring exCanberra piano-vocalist Craig Schneider and an excellent band of locals. A capacity house enjoyed the music of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra and Bobby Darin from a master. Their next show is on November 25 and will feature Angela Fabian in A Hot Night in Memphis.
