Our young mu­si­cal theatre artists are set to shine in Syd­ney, mean­while lo­cal stages are fac­ing a busy sched­ule of re­hearsals

The Rob Guest En­dow­ment Com­mit­tee has an­nounced that the 2016 Rob Guest En­dow­ment Grand Fi­nal Concert will take place on Novem­ber 14 at the Syd­ney Lyric Theatre. The concert will be a night of ex­hil­a­rat­ing mu­si­cal en­ter­tain­ment as six young mu­si­cal theatre artists per­form live and com­pete to win the $20,000 cash prize. Sup­ported by a live pro­fes­sional orches­tra, they will per­form along­side some of Aus­tralia’s most loved stars. The six fi­nal­ists for this year’s award are Du Toit Bren­denkamp (cur­rently per­form­ing in The Sound of Music), Hilary Cole (soon to open in Kinky Boots), Lin­den Fur­nell (Kinky Boots), Stephanie Jones (The Sound of Music), Genevieve Kings­ford (The Light in the Pi­azza) and Matthew Predny (Kinky Boots). Tickets for this year’s Gala Concert will go on sale Oc­to­ber 4 via Tick­et­mas­ter.

Gold Coast Lit­tle Theatre has an­nounced a ma­jor Christ­mas concert for its end of year cel­e­bra­tions, and the night will in­clude the draw­ing of a su­per raf­fle. Tickets will be sold from Novem­ber 4 and through­out the sea­son of How to Suc­ceed in Busi­ness With­out Re­ally Try­ing. The theatre is ask­ing for do­na­tions of goods or ser­vices. All pro­ceeds are go­ing to the theatre and will be ac­knowl­edged in the concert pro­gram. The Queens­land Cabaret Festival 2017 is seek­ing artist sub­mis­sions un­til Novem­ber 4. It prom­ises to be a mix of the best cabaret artists who’ll per­form in June .

The Bris­bane Pre­miere of KOOZA, to be held un­der the Big Top at Sky­gate Bris­bane Air­port, will take place on Novem­ber 24.

The As­so­ci­a­tion of Com­mu­nity Theatre Con­fer­ence will take place in Syd­ney this week­end at NIDA. Many rep­re­sen­ta­tives of lo­cal com­pa­nies will be at­tend­ing along with rep­re­sen­ta­tives from hun­dreds of com­mu­nity the­atres around Aus­tralia.

Au­di­tions for the first show at Gold Coast Lit­tle Theatre in 2017, Back to the 80s, will be held at Show­biz Ex­press on Novem­ber 6. Au­di­tion­ees need to pre­pare 32 bars from a song from the 1980s. Cast­ing in­for­ma­tion is avail­able on the Back to the 80s Face­book page, which in­cludes a link to the Awe­some Au­di­tion event.

Yours Truly caught the GC Jazz & Blues Club’s show last Friday night fea­tur­ing exCan­berra pi­ano-vo­cal­ist Craig Sch­nei­der and an ex­cel­lent band of lo­cals. A ca­pac­ity house enjoyed the music of Glenn Miller, Duke Elling­ton, Frank Si­na­tra and Bobby Darin from a master. Their next show is on Novem­ber 25 and will fea­ture An­gela Fabian in A Hot Night in Mem­phis.

Lots go­ing on in re­hearsal at present, in­clud­ing GCLT’s How to Suc­ceed in Busi­ness and Spot­light’s the Mys­tery of Ed­win Drood. Spot­light will hold au­di­tions for their hairy fairy­tale Ra­pun­zel on Oc­to­ber 2.
