Tick­ets from $79.99. out­back­spec­tac­u­lar.com.au ALI BABA Mur­willum­bah Civic Cen­tre: The Mur­willum­bah Theatre Al­liance pre­sents Ali Baba, a pan­tomime based on the well­known Ara­bian Nights tale, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. It is the story of a poor wood­cut­ter, Ali Baba, who is des­per­ate to buy the free­dom of his girl­friend, Safiya. She is a slave to Ali’s brother Cas­sim and his greedy wife Sharon. One day Ali’s dream comes true in an un­likely way, giv­ing him enough money to live hap­pily ever after. But things don’t turn out quite as Ali in­tended. Tick­ets $6 chil­dren, $15 adults. THE MYS­TERY OF ED­WIN DROOD Spotlight Theatre: Based on Charles Dick­ens’ un­fin­ished fi­nal novel, The Mys­tery of Ed­win Drood tells the story of young Ed­win Drood, an English­man whose sud­den dis­ap­pear­ance throws the fic­tional towns­peo­ple of Clois­ter­ham into a panic. Sus­pi­cions arise about who is re­spon­si­ble for Drood’s van­ish­ing, with fin­gers point­ing ev­ery which way, in­clud­ing at the dash­ing but vil­lain­ous John Jasper, Drood’s fi­ancee Rosa Bud, opium den pro­pri­etor Princess Puffer and mys­te­ri­ous sib­lings He­lena and Neville Land­less. Tick­ets $20-$35, spot­lightthe­atre.com.au THE MOTH AND THE MOON Goat Track Theatre: This in­spi­ra­tional piece of theatre places the con­cerns of young peo­ple cen­tre stage, ex­plor­ing what keeps them up at night and how they might find their way out of the dark­ness and into the light. It is the out­come of a 12month com­mu­nity arts and cul­tural de­vel­op­ment project that worked along­side more than 100 young peo­ple to ex­plore the things that keep young peo­ple up at night.
