Nom­i­nees for this year’s Gold Coast Area The­atre Awards were an­nounced last week, with some sur­prise in­clu­sions from many per­form­ing com­pa­nies in the wide area. Been­leigh The­atre Group’s Rent and St Stephen’s Col­lege’s Into the Woods re­ceived mul­ti­ple nom­i­na­tions, with Noises Off, The Cru­cible, Who’s Afraid of Vir­ginia and The Smell of Money also fea­tured. For a full list go to gold­coastareathe­atreawards Matt Ward En­ter­tain­ment and Bris­bane Pow­er­house as part of Melt Fes­ti­val 2017 has an­nounced the cast and cre­ative team be­hind the Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize win­ning mu­si­cal Rent, play­ing Bris­bane Pow­er­house from Fe­bru­ary 1. The cast will fea­ture Jack­son Mcgovern as Mark Co­hen, Chris White as Roger Davis, Tom Davis will play An­gel Du­mott Schu­nard, Luke Hodg­son as Tom Collins, Jac­qui Mclaren will take the role of Mimi Mar­quez, Aure­lie Roque as Joanne Jef­fer­son, Ruby Clark as Mau­reen John­son and Si­mon Cham­ber­lain as Ben­jamin Cof­fin III. Cel­e­brate the fes­tive sea­son with mu­si­cal the­atre star Sil­vie Pal­adino. Join her for an ex­quis­ite con­cert of Christ­mas carols with Have Your­self a Merry Lit­tle Christ­mas at The Arts Cen­tre Gold Coast on De­cem­ber 14 at 11am. Un­der the mu­si­cal di­rec­tion of David Cameron, Sil­vie will en­chant au­di­ences with carols such as When a Child is Born and O Holy Night, as well as a muchloved favourite song from Les Mis­er­ablés. Sil­vie will be sup­ported by pi­ano and a string quar­tet led by Dou­gal Scott. Gold Coast favourite Matt Ward will guest star. Matt has ap­peared in Joseph & his Amazing Tech­ni­colour Dream­coat, West Side Story, Les Mis­er­ables, 42nd Street and un­der­stud­ied for Rob Guest in Jekyll & Hyde. Most re­cently, you’ve seen him in The Arts Cen­tre Gold Coast’s pro­duc­tion of Miss Saigon. Har­vest Rain have an­nounced their new hol­i­day pro­duc­tion An­nie Jr. The eight-day per­for­mance work­shop from Jan­uary 4-13 cul­mi­nates in pub­lic per­for­mances from Jan­uary 13-15 at Har­vest Rain’s Hay­ward Street Stu­dios.
