DUO ARE IN TUNE
It’s been a breakout year for The Voice talents Claire Howell and Tash Lockhart. We catch up with the Gold Coast friends for a highlight reel and their New Year’s resolutions
What was your highlight of 2016? CH: Finishing school was a big thing. Tash and I became best friends and she’s opened me up to so many people and opportunities, including meeting my boyfriend. The Voice would have to be my biggest highlight as it made me grow as a person and as a singer. It showed me what it’s like to sing on a stage and made up my mind that that was what I wanted to do in my life – be a singer. TL: Definitely being involved in this year’s The Voice series. I actually would not have ever believed someone if they once said to me I would place third in The Voice. Watching these shows on TV, they just seemed like such a fairytale dream that wouldn’t actually happen to me. What’s the biggest lesson you’ll take from the year? CH: Probably to not delay on taking an opportunity that comes at you, if you want it, go get it and don’t procrastinate. TL: Honestly believing in myself. Self doubt kills dreams and desires, and it shut me down a lot over the past few years. I learned to trust in my abilities and that if you push through, with the right heart and mind, you can achieve your dreams. What’s coming up for you in 2017? CH: Tash and I and a couple of other girls are moving to Sydney and will be living in a house together. I will also be freelancing make-up wise and hopefully getting a job at a make-up store, as well as doing gigs around Sydney. TL: Moving to Sydney with my best friend Claire – I actually move in under a month. I’m so nervous but pretty excited to dive into more adventure and opportunity Are you making any New Year’s resolutions? CH: I do believe in resolutions, I just tend to not stick to them. A few of mine would probably be 1) don’t procrastinate 2) eat healthy 3) take every opportunity and 4) work harder than you’ve ever worked before. TL: Focus more on me and my goals and less on worldly distractions that come my way. So actually spend more time writing and becoming better at my instrument and less time just wasting time doing nothing. Best case scenario: this time next year, what do you hope to be doing? CH: I hope to have a single out on the radio and to be living effortlessly. I hope to have toned up a bit in my body and be preparing to move to somewhere in London with Tash. Very excited for 2017. TL: I hope to still be in Sydney and I hope to have written a bunch of cool songs that I’m super proud of. I hope to have savings to be able to travel the following year overseas to do some bigger writing trips.
