The Gold Coast Bulletin - Play Magazine - - DRESSING ROOMERS - KATE PETERS

Break out your best ’80s fashion, big hair, shoulder pads and legwarmers for Gold Coast Little Theatre’s Back to the ’80s. This musical, written by Neil Gooding and additional material by Stuart Smith, is guaranteed to take you right back there with songs from the era including Love Shack, Material Girl, Mickey, Footloose and Total Eclipse of the Heart. Coupled with fantastic dancing, choreography and fashion, how could it not be a hit? The show runs at GCLT at 25a Scarborough St, Southport from February 4 until March 4. To book call 5532 2096. Theatre bookings are now open for the February production Wait Until Dark by Frederick Knott at Tugun Theatre. Directed by Annie Lotocki, the plot has all the ingredients of a classic thriller: a blind heroine, her kind husband, an innocent child, three baddies, and two policemen. Opening night is February 9 and includes supper with the cast after the play, and the season continues Thursday to Saturday at 7.30pm until February 25, with matinees on February 11 and 18 at 2pm. For more details call 0449 788 486. I saw Matilda last Saturday night – it’s an extraordinary piece of theatre, and choreography and performances are out of this world. The young kids in the cast could perform on any stage in the world, such is the standard of the production. Not knowing the story, I was a little slow to click into what was going on in the first half, but overall the production was a hugely enjoyable experience. The pint-sized chorus in particular performed some of the most intricate and precise choreography I’ve seen for ages. The curtain call was also one of the best I’ve ever seen. Tickets are scarce for the last weeks, but grab one if you can.
