HUGH SHERIDAN RUFFLES SOME FEATHERS ON NEW SEASON OF HOUSE HUSBANDS
Hugh Sheridan had a steamy introduction in the return of House Husbands and will continue to spice things up.
The Packed to the Rafters favourite plays the new hubby on the block in Channel 9’s family drama-comedy, now in its fifth season. His character Nick is the new beau of Rachel (Jane Allsop) and when he moves in next door to Lewis (Gary Sweet), Lewis isn’t impressed with his alfresco lovemaking.
Joining such an established show was daunting enough for Sheridan, but he was particularly nervous about meeting House Husbands patriarch and Australian screen veteran Sweet.
“A couple of people had warned me, saying, ‘Just so you know, Gary likes to be the big dog on set.’
The first time I met him was at the Logies. I was sitting next to him and I was scared to talk to him,” he says.
“But it turns out he’s the nicest, funniest person I’ve ever worked with. He really goes out of his way to check on you and make you laugh.”
Allsop’s character Rachel is best known by fans as Mark’s (Rhys Muldoon) boss from hell. Her relationship with Nick will show another side to the ‘nut bag’ in the new season.
“Rachel is this nightmare really. I wouldn’t go out with her, let’s put it that way,” Allsop laughs.
“I thought, how’s this going to work? We bring this new character in and he likes this crazy woman?
“But I think we’ve found the way in to make those two characters work on-screen, even though they’re very different.
“Part of what people loved about Rachel in the last series was that she’s this crazy nutbag ... we can’t throw that out the window either.”
Delta Goodrem also joins the House Husbands cast this year as Izzy Dreyfus, a new reading recovery teacher at Nepean South Primary School. House Husbands, Monday 9pm, Channel 9.
