THE X FACTORS
Jupiters Gold Coast will be a time machine to the 90s when it hosts Liberty X, Atomic Kitten, B*Witched, S Club 3 and East 17 next Friday
When Liberty X disbanded in 2007 after an unpopular third album, core member Michelle Heaton admits she thought that would be it. Now she’s back on stage for an all-star reunion.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I think a second opportunity would come around,” she says.
“I thought that would be it. We didn’t want to go out being washed up; we wanted to go out on a high.
“We’ve all got families here – husbands and kids and dirty laundry – so being a popstar again for three weeks in Australia of all places is beyond exciting.”
Having reunited a handful of times over the past decade, Michelle says her and her compatriots are pros at picking up where they left off.
“Nostalgia never washes away; every time we do a gig together we feel that nostalgia,” she says.
“Then there’s the fear of are we still going to be good enough? Are we still going to have it? We’re a bit older now – are we still going to bring it on stage? But we’ve been rehearsing a lot and we’re not going to disappoint.”
Michelle peforms with not only Liberty X but also Atomic Kitten.
“It’s not been easy, I’m not going to lie,” she says with a laugh. “I rehearse as often as I can but it’s easy to get steps mixed up with a song from another band. I’ll always be a Liberty X girl at heart but I am thoroughly enjoying my time as a Kitten.”
But it’s not all work, no play, as despite being a mother-of-two and heavily invested in health and fitness, Michelle makes no promise to keep it tame.
“We’re all letting rip for three weeks,” she says.
“Back in the day with Liberty X, we were quite reserved in our partying – we definitely didn’t do anything untoward. We were actually quite clean – just a bit of drink and maybe a few late nights.
“I think actually we’ve worsened with time. I don’t do it as often, but when I do it now I do it properly.” Catch Michelle performing with Liberty X and Atomic Kitten, alongside B*Witched, S Club 3 and East 17 at Jupiters Gold Coast, February 17.
