The Gold Coast Bulletin - Play Magazine - - DRESSING ROOMERS - KATE PETERS

ollowing on from the news that Bonnie Lythgoe’s Peter Pan will star Todd McKenney as Captain Hook at The Arts Centre GC, the publicists tell Dressing Roomers that they will hold auditions March 4-6 for the lost boys and also a young troupe of locals. Voices in Paradise is holding a cappella workshop – the biggest in the country. Coaches are Drums of War (an Australian a cappella sensation) and Blindside, recently crowned Australian barbershop champions. Register on May 27 at Griffith University Gold Coast. Queensland Theatre’s produc-tion of The Flick, which plays at the Cremorne Theatre until March 5, opened last week to an enthusiastic audience. The play is absorbing, humorous, and intoxicating, as it delicately weaves through the unsettling lives of three underappreciated staff members at an outdated cinema. Late night conversations, spilled popcorn and continual banter about love, life, and longing holds the audience’s attention until the final scene. The Flick, winner of the 2014 prestigious Pulitzer Prize for drama, has been the talk of New York and London and now Queensland audiences are lucky enough to see it. Harvest Rain is looking for children for a production of The Jungle Book Kids this Easter school holidays. If your child is aged between eight and 14 years of age, then enrol them now to take part in this five-day performance workshop from April 3-7. The end result will be public performances of Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids on April 7 at Harvest Rain’s Hayward Street Studios. Up north a bit, Mates Theatre Genesis is holding auditions for their midyear production of The Odd Couple (female version), and are looking for two excellent actors. Audition will be held today at the Birkdale School of Arts hall from 7.30pm. For more information regarding the roles, and to request an audition, visit the Mates Theatre Genesis website. Performance dates: June 2-17 at Birkdale. Sunday Popera Classics and The Lions Den will appear on February 26 at Marine Village, Sanctuary Cove, commencing at 4pm. The Marine Village will become an open-air theatre when a stellar cast headlined by the highly popular Popera Classics Collection and featuring sensational male harmony trio The Lions Den perform a spectacular journey of music. Audiences can expect hits from blockbuster musicals, the very best of classical moments, modern popera classics and timeless hits of the doo-wop groups and boy bands of the 20th century. This is a free family event, no tickets or booking required and BYO chair and rug. Playing on the Gold Coast are Tugun Theatre’s Wait Until Dark (last weekend), Gold Coast Little Theatre’s Back to the 80s and Spotlight Theatre’s Saturday Night Fever. In rehearsal are Tweed Theatre’s Broadway Blockbusters in Concert and Spotlight’s Boy Band. Starting rehearsals this weekend is GCLT’s Crown Matrimonial. (This production is looking for a Duchess of Gloucester – contact director Kate Peters on 0411 697 265).
