Queensland Theatre’s produc-tion of The Flick, which plays at the Cremorne Theatre until March 5, opened last week to an enthusiastic audience. The play is absorbing, humorous, and intoxicating, as it delicately weaves through the unsettling lives of three underappreciated staff members at an outdated cinema. Late night conversations, spilled popcorn and continual banter about love, life, and longing holds the audience’s attention until the final scene. The Flick, winner of the 2014 prestigious Pulitzer Prize for drama, has been the talk of New York and London and now Queensland audiences are lucky enough to see it. Harvest Rain is looking for children for a production of The Jungle Book Kids this Easter school holidays. If your child is aged between eight and 14 years of age, then enrol them now to take part in this five-day performance workshop from April 3-7. The end result will be public performances of Disney’s The Jungle Book Kids on April 7 at Harvest Rain’s Hayward Street Studios. Up north a bit, Mates Theatre Genesis is holding auditions for their midyear production of The Odd Couple (female version), and are looking for two excellent actors. Performance dates: June 2-17 at Birkdale. Sunday Popera Classics and The Lions Den will appear on February 26 at Marine Village, Sanctuary Cove, commencing at 4pm. The Marine Village will become an open-air theatre when a stellar cast headlined by the highly popular Popera Classics Collection and featuring sensational male harmony trio The Lions Den perform a spectacular journey of music. Audiences can expect hits from blockbuster musicals, the very best of classical moments, modern popera classics and timeless hits of the doo-wop groups and boy bands of the 20th century. This is a free family event, no tickets or booking required and BYO chair and rug. Playing on the Gold Coast are Tugun Theatre’s Wait Until Dark (last weekend), Gold Coast Little Theatre’s Back to the 80s and Spotlight Theatre’s Saturday Night Fever. In rehearsal are Tweed Theatre’s Broadway Blockbusters in Concert and Spotlight’s Boy Band. Starting rehearsals this weekend is GCLT’s Crown Matrimonial.
