HOLIDAY HEROES TO THE RESCUE
Has school-holiday cabin fever set in? Here are five flicks you can plonk the kids in front of while you enjoy the peace and a choc-top
THE BOSS BABY (G)
When a mum and dad bring home a new baby, their son Tim notices a few strange things about him. His name is Boss Baby, he wears a suit, carries a briefcase, prefers sushi and espresso shots over breast milk and baby formula and, perhaps strangest of all, he can speak fluently and sounds like a middle-aged businessman. The typical sibling rivalry ensues but when Tim realises Boss Baby is actually an undercover spy who has been sent to ensure the continuation of babies everywhere, they team up.
SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE (G)
Best friends Smurfette, Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty are alerted to the fact that they might not be the only Smurfs in existence and that the mythical Lost Village might not be so mythical. They use a special map that guides them through the Forbidden Forest, an enchanted wonderland that’s filled with magical creatures. Their adventure leads them on a course to discover the biggest secret in Smurf history as they race against time and the evil wizard Gargamel to find the mysterious village.
THE LEGO BATMAN MOVIE (PG)
Batman is not the humble hero we’re used to in this Lego version. He’s still just as awesome, but he makes sure everyone also knows how awesome he is. There are big changes brewing in Gotham, but if Batman wants to save the city from the Joker’s hostile takeover, he may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and learn to lighten up. When Alfred reminds Batman he adopted a child some time ago, something Batman had totally forgotten, he finds an unlikely sidekick.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (PG)
After her father is imprisoned by a terrifying beast, Belle goes to find him and sacrifices herself to save her father, becoming The Beast’s prisoner. Little does she know, he is actually a prince who was cursed by an enchantress, a curse that can only be lifted if he finds true love. The Beast’s employees, who were also cursed with becoming household items, see their opportunity for the spell to be lifted and do what they can to inspire true love. You’ll love singing along to the classic soundtrack.
