SERVING A TREAT
Gifted operatic singer Julia Allsop will deliver a hearty Italian feast for the senses when she performs at Mavis’s Kitchens on Saturday
Celebrate Italian Republic Day with an operatic performance at Mavis’s picturesque Uki property this Saturday. The talent, Julia Allsop, was found as many of the best things are, by happy accident.
“We met her here at the restaurant one Sunday while she was visiting from Melbourne and lunching with family,” Mavis’s marketing manager Kristal Smith says.
“At this stage, an Italian opera in June was just an exciting idea with no idea of its viability. To be frank, I was wondering to myself, ‘oh gosh, how will I pull this one off?’
“But there she was, singing to us under the tree with such trained vocal power that she gave us goosebumps and ultimately the giggles at realising we had found ‘the one’.”
As it would turn out, Julia has an impressive resume.
She performs an extensive range of classical and opera and holds a Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, majoring in Classical Voice. At the time she was the only pupil admitted under a scholarship program – the Young Conservatorium Scholarship Program.
Julia is currently listed as one of the soloists for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra Concert Series.
Prior to this, she sung in the Queensland Conservatorium Concert Series at QPAC and has featured in many lead roles at The Arts Centre Gold Coast productions.
She performs regularly across Australia and overseas in conjunction with Melbourne University Choral society and the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic choir touring concerts under the direction of award-winning conductor Andrew Wailes.
Bottom line is that, for one long-table feast, an operatic talent of more than 20 years will perform up-close-andpersonal at Mavis’s. There’ll be an Italian menu to match.
“A major propellant in this event coming to life has been the vivacious Venetian/Italian managers and chefs we have working here at Mavis’s,” Kristal says.
“Designing this event has been a lovely authentic process, as if creating a big loud Italian family gathering.” Italian Opera by the Lake this Saturday at Mavis’s Kitchens and Cabins. Tickets $95 plus booking fee. Call 02 6679 5664.
