Afab­u­lous the­atre party has been or­gan­ised for Gold Coast the­atre-lovers to see The Body­guard at QPAC at the 1pm show on Au­gust 6. See Paulini Cu­ru­e­navuli of Aus­tralian Idol fame per­form the great Whit­ney Hous­ton songs in this adap­ta­tion of the ma­jor film. GCLT has been boosted with a sub­stan­tial fund­ing grant for the pur­pose of pur­chas­ing new sound equip­ment. Re­cent mu­si­cals have been marred by sound is­sues and the man­age­ment at GCLT are con­fi­dent that th­ese will soon be a thing of the past. Still with GCLT, the cast for Lady Win­der­mere’s Fan has been an­nounced. It in­cludes: Stu­art Lums­den as Lord Win­der­mere, James An­der­son as Lord Dar­ling­ton, Robert Miller as Lord Au­gus­tus Lor­ton, Noel Thomp­son as Dumby, Andrew Cock­roft-Pen­man as Mr Ce­cil Gra­ham, Chloe Dear as Lady Win­der­mere, Jac­qui Sim­mons as The Duchess of Ber­wick, Sheila Bradley as Lady Jed­burgh and Su­san Cary as Mrs Er­lynne. Looks like a win­ner to me! The 17th An­nual Helpmann Awards will be held on July 24 at 7pm at the Capi­tol The­atre in Syd­ney. With 10 sen­sa­tional per­for­mances and a spec­tac­u­lar ar­ray of high-profile hosts and pre­sen­ters, it will be a ter­rific evening for any­one who finds them­selves in Syd­ney that night. This year the cer­e­mony will be staged on the set of Kinky Boots and fea­tures per­for­mances from the mu­si­cals My Fair Lady with Reg Liver­more, Kinky Boots, Dis­ney’s Aladdin, The Book of Mor­mon and Beau­ti­ful: The Ca­role King Mu­si­cal, fea­tur­ing Dami Im, and the star of the show Es­ther Han­naford. Grin­spoons’ Phil Jamieson is joined by the cast of Green Day’s Amer­i­can Id­iot to per­form 21 Guns. Aus­tralian Dance The­atre will per­form a trib­ute to chore­og­ra­pher Tanja Liedtke with her in­ter­na­tional suc­cess Con­struct. The Syd­ney Chil­dren’s Choir present a piece by Sally Whitwell, Lux Aeterna, for the In Me­mo­riam and the cabaret cir­cus hit Vel­vet starring Mar­cia Hines closes the night. The 2017 Helpmann Awards will be broad­cast live on Fox­tel Arts and we­b­cast free via fox­te­larts.com.au MATES The­atre Ge­n­e­sis is bring­ing Sum­mer of the Seven­teenth Doll to Red­lands this Novem­ber, and is call­ing for peo­ple in­ter­ested in au­di­tion­ing for a role in this defin­ing piece of Aus­tralian the­atre. The au­di­tion process for Sum­mer of the Seven­teenth Doll will be in two parts: a play read­ing on Sun­day, July 16, fol­lowed by au­di­tions July 18 and 20. All three events will be held at the Birk­dale School of Arts Hall.
