Theatre-lovers are spoilt for choice, with plenty of shows to see in the region, as well as a chance to catch a divine diva on stage

GCLT has been boosted with a substantial funding grant for the purpose of purchasing new sound equipment. Recent musicals have been marred by sound issues and the management at GCLT are confident that these will soon be a thing of the past. Still with GCLT, the cast for Lady Windermere’s Fan has been announced. It includes: Stuart Lumsden as Lord Windermere, James Anderson as Lord Darlington, Robert Miller as Lord Augustus Lorton, Noel Thompson as Dumby, Andrew Cockroft-Penman as Mr Cecil Graham, Chloe Dear as Lady Windermere, Jacqui Simmons as The Duchess of Berwick, Sheila Bradley as Lady Jedburgh and Susan Cary as Mrs Erlynne. Looks like a winner to me! The 17th Annual Helpmann Awards will be held on July 24 at 7pm at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney. With 10 sensational performances and a spectacular array of high-profile hosts and presenters, it will be a terrific evening for anyone who finds themselves in Sydney that night. This year the ceremony will be staged on the set of Kinky Boots and features performances from the musicals My Fair Lady with Reg Livermore, Kinky Boots, Disney’s Aladdin, The Book of Mormon and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, featuring Dami Im, and the star of the show Esther Hannaford. Grinspoons’ Phil Jamieson is joined by the cast of Green Day’s American Idiot to perform 21 Guns. Australian Dance Theatre will perform a tribute to choreographer Tanja Liedtke with her international success Construct. The Sydney Children’s Choir present a piece by Sally Whitwell, Lux Aeterna, for the In Memoriam and the cabaret circus hit Velvet starring Marcia Hines closes the night. The 2017 Helpmann Awards will be broadcast live on Foxtel Arts and webcast free via foxtelarts.com.au MATES Theatre Genesis is bringing Summer of the Seventeenth Doll to Redlands this November, and is calling for people interested in auditioning for a role in this defining piece of Australian theatre. The audition process for Summer of the Seventeenth Doll will be in two parts: a play reading on Sunday, July 16, followed by auditions July 18 and 20.
