The many intricacies of modern relationships are grist for the comedic mill of an insightful play being brought to life by Spotlight Theatre
There were two big openings last week. Spotlight Theatre’s eagerly awaited comedy Take a Chance On Me, written by Roger Hall and directed by Helen Maden, debuted on Friday night. A packed audience enjoyed the show about modern relationships, with standout performances from an experienced cast. The season runs until October 1 (Thursday to Saturday at 7.30pm, with a Sunday matinee at 2pm on September 24). Book at Spotlight Costume Hire, call the box office on 55394 255 or go to spotlighttheatre.com.au Also opening was Javeenbah Theatre’s I Remember You, conceived and directed by Gai Byrne. The soundtrack featured music from the ’50s and ’60s, in a bright and colourful show. Running until September 30, bookings can be made online at Javeenbah’s website. Two of Australia’s favourite music theatre stars will perform together at an exciting new venue near Tyalgum. Rachael Beck and Michael Cormick will feature at the Garden of Light on September 23. Beginning with lunch at Flutterbies Cottage Café at noon, followed by a bus to the garden at 1.30pm, the concert will start at 2pm. It’s a brilliantly designed outdoor stage (the audience is in the shade) and is sure to be a sensational way to enjoy these two superb talents. For bookings call 0488 713 241. The Arts Centre Gold Coast will stage an intense physical theatre, film and dance piece in Blue Love from September 27 to 30. Choreographer Shaun Parker’s latest work is inspired by famous works of art, theatre, music and film that deal with the concept of love. This quirky, character-based piece is a multimedia, physical theatre comedy. It’s enormously entertaining. Originally created as a short film, Blue Love has screened in Athens, London, Berlin, Melbourne, San Francisco and at the Verona Film Festival. The film won Best Dance Film at the Australian Dance Awards. Venue is The Space, and it’s recommended for audiences aged 16 plus. Book on 5588 4000. Bookings are now open for Zamia Theatre’s school holiday pantomime Scallywags, directed by Kate Tardy for Tamborine Mountain Little Theatre and kicking off September 22.
