The hit Broad­way show has made its glit­ter­ing way from Mel­bourne to Bris­bane’s QPAC and is sure to en­chant all lovers of mu­si­cal theatre

The wishes of Queens­land mu­si­cal theatre fans have been granted with the open­ing of Dis­ney’s Aladdin at Queens­land Per­form­ing Arts Cen­tre (QPAC). The hit Broad­way mu­si­cal flies into Bris­bane fol­low­ing its cel­e­brated Mel­bourne sea­son, where it played to packed houses and re­ceived rave re­views. The Aus­tralian pro­duc­tion boasts a cast of 34 and a stag­ger­ing 337 glit­ter­ing cos­tumes, fea­tur­ing 1225 dif­fer­ent fab­rics, 712 dif­fer­ent styles of beads and more than 500,000 Swarovski crys­tals. Great news about a lo­cally writ­ten and per­formed pro­duc­tion. Dress­ing Roomers heard this week that Foot­lights The­atri­cal will stage a sea­son of their Palm Award-win­ning show Billy Buck­ett – a Rock ’n’ Roll Love Story at the Lo­gan En­ter­tain­ment Cen­tre from May 16-19. Foot­lights is an in­de­pen­dent lo­cal theatre group that aims to cre­ate op­por­tu­ni­ties for lo­cal artists in venues around Bris­bane. The group has just been awarded an $8000 Re­gional Arts De­vel­op­ment Fund grant to as­sist it in stag­ing its Lo­gan­grown show, with the same di­rec­tor at the helm as the first pre­miere sea­son in 2013. Tick­ets are avail­able now at Lo­gan En­ter­tain­ment Cen­tre. Vo­cales­cence ladies choir is cel­e­brat­ing its mul­ti­cul­tural cho­rus with a Bri­tish high tea and fash­ion show. It will be held on March 3 at He­lensvale Cul­tural Cen­tre in the au­di­to­rium from 4-6pm, with a glass of bub­bles, treats and a Cur­rently play­ing is GCLT’s Bar­maids, Spot­light Theatre’s Oliver!, N.A.P.A’s Rock of Ages, Tu­gun Theatre’s Old Ac­tors Never Die and Phoenix Ensem­ble’s Xanadu. In re­hearsal is Javeen­bah’s 25th An­nual Put­nam County Spell­ing Bee. See you in a crowded foyer real soon!
