Cur­rent and past mem­bers, vol­un­teers and work­ers came out in force for the 15th an­niver­sary of Spot­light The­atre’s Main The­atre last Satur­day night. A great party, en­ter­tain­ment and a re­nam­ing cer­e­mony had the au­di­ence thor­oughly en­joy­ing the event. Clem and Shelly Halpin, ma­jor bene­fac­tors of the com­pany, were hon­oured with the the­atre now known as The Halpin Au­di­to­rium. It’s a fit­ting thank you for many years of ser­vice to Spot­light. Gold Coast Lit­tle The­atre re­leased its 2019 play­bill at its an­nual gen­eral meet­ing last night. From Fe­bru­ary 2 – 23 is Se­cret Brides­maids’ Busi­ness di­rected by Amy-Louise An­der­son, fol­lowed by The Sound of Mu­si­cals – 60 Years of GCLT Mu­si­cal The­atre di­rected by Shane Cad­daye from March 29 to April 14. This is fol­lowed by their pop­u­lar One Act Play Sea­son from April 25 – 28. Stu­art Lums­den di­rects Away from June 8-29, fol­lowed by The Ad­dams Fam­ily di­rected by Jay Ahrens from Au­gust 31 to Septem­ber 29. The year fin­ishes with The King and I di­rected by Stu­art Mor­gan from No­vem­ber 9 to De­cem­ber 7. Javeen­bah The­atre has also an­nounced its play­bill for 2019. Run­ning Fe­bru­ary 1-16 is Fes­ti­val jBah, a cel­e­bra­tion of grass­roots ta­lent, in­clud­ing the world pre­miere per­for­mances of new works by lo­cal play­wrights Kel­lie Sil­ver and Sher­ree Hal­li­well. This is fol­lowed by the mu­si­cal Blood Broth­ers from March 19-April 13 – book, mu­sic and lyrics by Willy Rus­sell, di­rected by Katie Steuart-Robins. May 24-June 8 brings The Penelop­iad, writ­ten by Mar­garet At­wood di­rected by Kaela Gray, then Mur­derer from July 19-Au­gust 3, writ­ten by An­thony Shaf­fer and di­rected by Barry Gib­son. He­len Maden then di­rects The Ac­tress from Septem­ber 13 to In re­hearsal is Javeen­bah The­atre’s A Kick in the Baubles and GCLT’s Hello, Dolly! and Tu­gun’s Pins & Nee­dles. Play­ing is Spot­light The­atre’s The Won­derettes. See you in a crowded foyer.
