Spotlight Theatre recognises the contribution of benefactors Clem and Shelly Halpin with a ceremony announcing The Halpin Auditorium
Current and past members, volunteers and workers came out in force for the 15th anniversary of Spotlight Theatre’s Main Theatre last Saturday night. A great party, entertainment and a renaming ceremony had the audience thoroughly enjoying the event. Clem and Shelly Halpin, major benefactors of the company, were honoured with the theatre now known as The Halpin Auditorium. It’s a fitting thank you for many years of service to Spotlight. Gold Coast Little Theatre released its 2019 playbill at its annual general meeting last night. From February 2 – 23 is Secret Bridesmaids’ Business directed by Amy-Louise Anderson, followed by The Sound of Musicals – 60 Years of GCLT Musical Theatre directed by Shane Caddaye from March 29 to April 14. This is followed by their popular One Act Play Season from April 25 – 28. Stuart Lumsden directs Away from June 8-29, followed by The Addams Family directed by Jay Ahrens from August 31 to September 29. The year finishes with The King and I directed by Stuart Morgan from November 9 to December 7. Javeenbah Theatre has also announced its playbill for 2019. Running February 1-16 is Festival jBah, a celebration of grassroots talent, including the world premiere performances of new works by local playwrights Kellie Silver and Sherree Halliwell. This is followed by the musical Blood Brothers from March 19-April 13 – book, music and lyrics by Willy Russell, directed by Katie Steuart-Robins. May 24-June 8 brings The Penelopiad, written by Margaret Atwood directed by Kaela Gray, then Murderer from July 19-August 3, written by Anthony Shaffer and directed by Barry Gibson. Helen Maden then directs The Actress from September 13 to In rehearsal is Javeenbah Theatre’s A Kick in the Baubles and GCLT’s Hello, Dolly! and Tugun’s Pins & Needles. Playing is Spotlight Theatre’s The Wonderettes. See you in a crowded foyer.
