Javeenbah’s final show of 2018, A Kick in the Baubles, opens this Saturday. Written by Gordon Steele and directed by Dawn China, it’s another peaceful Christmas in the Bauble household. Frank does not wish it could be Christmas every day – in fact, he’s dreading the arrival of snobbish in-laws who only ever bring a single bottle of wine for the entire festivities. Bookings for the show are now open online. Still with Javeenbah, it is holding its Christmas celebration on Saturday, December 8 from 7.30pm. Called Christmas in July … in December, it will feature a look back at the year and other fun events. Call the theatre to book. Queensland Theatre will close its brilliant year with the powerhouse actor Danielle Cormack in Hedda. Directed by Paige Rattray, Hedda is a reimagining of Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler by Melissa Bubnic and will run from November 10 to December 8 in the newly opened Bille Brown Theatre. Cormack is joined on stage by Jimi Bani, Bridie Carter, Jason Klarwein, Joss McWilliam, Andrea Moor and Helen O’Leary. It’s a star-studded line-up. Tickets are available at queenslandtheatre.com.au or by calling 1800 355 528. RedVentures Theatre Action Group will stage a Brisbane production of the play Hurried Steps by Dacia Maraini. Showing on November 17, the play is part of a global campaign to end violence against women and girls. Translated by Sharon Wood from the Italian original Passi Affrettati, Hurried Steps tells a series of true and poignant stories of women and girls from around the world who have experienced violence and persecution, as reported to Amnesty International. The Brisbane performance is directed by Ainsley Burdell, with musical director Marina Aboody Thacker. It stars eight non-professional actors and the women’s community choir The Embers, conducted by Christine Grodd. Ballina Players’ first production for 2019 will be Beauty and the Beast, a junior production from January 11 to 20. Tickets will go on sale mid December.
