Prices are all right with a nifty trio for provincials

-

NOBLE Joey claimed first blood in yesterday’s Provincial Championships Qualifier at Wyong but it was the performance of runner-up Better Not Blue that had punters talking.

Noble Joey, Better Not Blue and Princess Posh were installed as the favourites for the Provincial Championships Final (1400m) at Randwick on April 8 after the trio qualified for the $400,000 feature when running 1-2-3 in the opening heat yesterday.

Noble Joey found the front and held all his rivals at bay in the straight at his first run over 1350m but it was Better Not Blue’s slashing first-up second from the back of the field that was just as impressive.

Better Not Blue showed a blistering turn of foot in his first race start since last July and the five-year-old looks on track to better his seventh placing in the Provincial Championships Final last year.

But all honours were with Noble Joey yesterday, much to the delight of the father-son training combination of Robert and Luke Price.

“There’s no better advertisement for the start of our partnership and moving to the provincials,” former Nowra based trainer Luke Price said.

“We have only been at Kembla Grange for four months and hopefully it will be the start of something great.

“He’s a tough little horse and he did a bit of work early ... it was good to see him salute.”
