Beach safety goes global

BEACH safety information flyers have been created in Chinese and Japanese to help keep international visitors safe.

The flyers were created by council, Gold Coast District, Cultural Liaison Unit and Surf Life Saving Queensland.

Mayor Tom Tate said more than one million tourists visit the Gold Coast, many from nonEnglish speaking backgrounds.

He said in the past nine months lifeguards had conducted 1481 rescues and 34, 617 preventions.
