Soldier shot dead in NT
AN Australian soldier was shot and killed at a remote Northern Territory military training base yesterday.
Defence said in a statement the soldier, understood to be in his 20s, had been taking part in a “routine” training drill at Mount Bundey Training Area, about 100km south of Darwin.
“(The) Army has instigated a suspension of training activities across its combat brigades to review risk assessment processes and training safety management,” the statement said.
The base is used frequently for joint Australian-US training exercises when US Marines are stationed in the Top End. It is unclear whether Marines were involved in the exercise.
