Catholic priest extradited

A FORMER senior Catholic priest has been extradited from the Gold Coast to NSW over historic child sex offences.

Richard Cattell, 75, appeared briefly in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday and was extradited to Tweed Heads Local Court to face nine child sex offences allegedly committed against boys in the Penrith area between 1979 and 1999. The offences are believed to relate to two boys under the age of 16.

Cattell had been living at Robina since being released on parole six months ago after serving jail time for similar offences.

He was yesterday granted bail in the Tweed Heads Local Court and will appear in Lismore Local Court on July 18.
