Halloween hell at murder scene

-

POLICE who found Indonesian woman Mayang Prasetyo’s severed feet in a crockpot on her kitchen floor thought it was a “sick Halloween prank” before realising they had walked into a murder scene, an inquest heard.

Footage of the moment a welfare check turned into a major incident was played to the Queensland Coroners Court yesterday, with one officer exclaiming “oh s--t!” as he made the discovery.

The inquest heard Marcus Volke, a chef, and Ms Prasetyo had not lived in the complex in the Brisbane suburb of Teneriffe for long when a strange smell came from their unit.

Constable Liam McWhinney and Senior Constable Bryan Reid arrived at the complex on the evening of October 4, 2014, after being told by the building manager it had been some days since he had seen Ms Prasetyo. Mr Volke told the officers his girlfriend, a transgender sex worker, had attacked him with a knife and fled.

Mr Volke escaped out the back and officers gave chase but lost him.

A sniffer dog tracked Mr Volke to a large bin nearby. He was dead inside, his throat cut. The inquest continues.
