Little Hunter thriving on vegan diet

IT might be controversial, but this newly crowned “sexiest vegan next door” is confident her vegan baby is one of the healthiest bubs there is.

Palm Beach local Jordan McGregor, 26, has had twoyear old Hunter on a plantbased diet since the day he was born.

The stay-at-home mum and owner of eco-conscious store Bare and Boho said she couldn’t drink milk any more after watching some distressing footage of dairy calves being ripped away from their mothers.

“I really became interested in dropping dairy and eggs just after giving birth,” she said.

Ms McGregor said she did a lot of research before deciding a vegan diet would be the healthiest way forward for her son as well.

“My son is vegan and the healthiest bub I know,” she said.

“He’s definitely off the charts with his weight and his height and he hasn’t once had meat.”

Ms McGregor said Hunter was still breastfed, which made up a large part of his diet and was packed with nutrition.

The family also followed a vegan version of the ancient Indian lifestyle of Ayurveda, which was traditionally vegetarian.

“For breakfast he has banana with molasses and for dinner a stew or curry with quinoa,” she said, adding she added in healthy oils, fats, fruits and vegetables daily.

“He eats anything I eat, he has no baby food.”

Ms McGregor said her husband was on board with their son being vegan, although he still sometimes ate organic animal products, including meat.

And while she would like Hunter to stay vegan, when he was old enough he would be allowed to choose a diet he wanted, Ms McGregor said.

Hunter’s road to veganism hasn’t always been peachy, with Ms McGregor admitting she has had to face criticism from doctors and strangers, despite the fact he had never been sick.

“I always had lots of people going, ooh, is he healthy?” she said.

“You will get a lot of negativity, I’ve spoken to other mums who are doubtful – until they see my son. It’s about feeling confident in your decision as a mum.”

She said Hunter “had a very developed palate” and he disliked sugary processed foods, although healthy homemade chocolate cake and cupcakes didn’t go astray.

Ms McGregor said she spent about $100 a week on bulk buying organic fruit and vegetables for the family.
