Johnson car makes $340,000
A 1977 XC Falcon driven by racing legend Dick Johnson around the old Surfers Paradise International Raceway has fetched $340,000 at an auction at the weekend.
The piece of motorsport history went under the hammer at Lloyds Auctions and sold for $160,000 less than expected.
Lloyds Auctions chief operations officer Lee Hames had predicted the vehicle would go for more than $500,000 after a Holden Torana was tipped to sell for about a million dollars in Sydney.
Mr Hames said despite the sale coming to a halt, the vendor was happy with the result.
“The fact that the car has been in a crash may have affected its selling price,” he said, referring to a 1980 Bathurst incident.
