JOBS IF YOU HAVE GOOD TASTE

-

1 SOMMELIER: Wine is a very particular industry, in which even the slightest chemical difference can change the flavour dramatically for wine connoisseurs. It opens up a career path perfect for those who are passionate and knowledgeable about wine.

Sommeliers recommend to diners in a restaurant the perfect wine to suit their tastes and match their meal. There are few requirements for entrylevel positions, except for a love for wine and some experience working in a highend restaurant in roles such as waiter or bar attendant.

Workers looking to advance up the ranks can study through Sommeliers Australia or the Court of Master Sommeliers, with master sommelier the top title held by only 236 people worldwide, including Ben Hasko ( pictured). 2 STYLIST: Not everyone has the time to keep up-to-date with the latest fashion trends so they hire a stylist to help them select their outfits.

Being able to match clothes, accessories and makeup styles to fit somebody’s face and body shape are the key abilities required.

It is a skill desired by small boutique fashion stores, larger department stores or even shopping centres such as Westfield. The most desirable trait in these jobs is having past retail experience, however, smaller independent agencies do stylist short courses. 3 FOOD TECHNOLOGIST: Being able to understand the science of what flavours go together and what makes a food taste the way it does makes a food technologist a valuable employee. Not all food preparation happens in the kitchen, however, and there is also a place for good taste in the lab. Behind most large-scale cuisine companies there is a research and development team working to make food safe to eat and enjoyable. To get a job in this field, jobseekers need either a Diploma of Food Sciences or Bachelor of Food and Nutrition Science.
