I HAVE read articles and seen politicians with their smiley faces saying how wonderful the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games will be.

It’s like anything, I suppose, you’re either interested or not.

In my opinion if you can’t win gold at the Olympics you have a chance at these Games, when the world’s top athletes aren’t there.

OK, I am a part-time security guard. I work at Wacol from 11pm to 7am.

Leaving Wacol at 7am I usually am at Dreamworld about 7.30am, and with the present traffic situation I am usually home at Broadbeach by 8.30am.

How am I going to get home when the Games are on next year?

The politicians say arrange your holidays around the Games. Who are they to tell me what to do?

Oh, I should say, I do not have holidays as I am only a casual.

Wilsons, who are organising Games security, have told me security personnel will be catching public transport (put a target on their backs).

I really want to know how I am going to get home after night work. ROB MCINTOSH

NEVILLE Smith, the interstate truckie, and State Main Roads Minister Mark should read the road rules.

On highways with a speed limit of 80km/h or higher and three or four lanes wide, the outside lane is to be used for overtaking and once completed must return to any of the inside lanes.

Neville’s ignorance plus most Queensland drivers cause most of the accidents by hogging this outside lane and when wanting to exit the highway force their way across drivers obeying the road rules. PAK WILLIAMS

THE rule in England regarding motorway use when I left 20 years ago was quite simple.

Trucks and coaches were not allowed to use the outside (fast) lane. Depending on which motorway they were on this left them free to use the other two or three lanes. FRANK TEWKESBURY

CONGRATULATIONS to all those fine Australians who received recognition and awards in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

But surely it is time Queensland and Western Australia joined the other states to have this holiday on the same day.

By the way, my heart goes out to David Chan (Your Views, 11/6) with the news that Qantas head Alan Joyce received an award for his services to the airline industry, gender equality and diversity.

Mr Chan’s tirades against gays and same-sex marriage and his dislike of Mr Joyce have obviously been rightly ignored by the Queen and the awards committee. COLIN HAUVILLE

I CAN’T believe Alan Joyce has been honoured by the Queen.

Surely his enormous salary is enough, especially since he got it by sacking so many staff.

Australian honours should only be given to people who are volunteers or who get an ordinary salary.

Anyone who gets more than a $1 million should be excluded. JENNIFER HORSBURGH
