CRY OF THE TIGER: RISING UP TO THE CHALLENGE OF SURVIVAL

-

LOOK at me! It is always a big occasion when a cute new zoo creature is introduced to the world and this rare Siberian tiger cub made the most of his public debut this week.

The 7½-week-old tiger cub lives in the Debrecen Zoo in Debrecen, 221km east of Budapest, Hungary

The male cub is hand-fed by his keepers because his mother has no milk to feed him.

He is the first Siberian tiger to be born in this zoo where his parents are kept in the frame of the European Endangered Species Breeding Programme of the Federation of European Zoos.

It is estimated the wild population of Siberian tigers is about 350 to 450.

The primary threats to the Siberian – or Amur – tiger in the wild are poaching and habitat loss from intensive logging and development.
