WHAT happens when your number is up but everyone moves heaven and earth to keep you alive?

Mermaid Beach’s Dave Gaglioti probably shouldn’t have survived the car crash that fractured his skull and ruptured his intestines.

He most definitely shouldn’t be looking like he just stepped out of a cover shoot for Men’s Health. But when his life almost slipped away, Mr Gaglioti grasped on so strongly that he emerged transforme­d.

The former party boy is now a personal trainer at My Fitness Club in Broadbeach, where his inspiratio­nal story motivates even the most reluctant of exercisers.

It’s not just his body that’s been improved. Mr Gaglioti’s accident also damaged the part of his brain that produces serotonin, meaning he has also had to work to improve his mental health.

“My accident made me open my eyes and see the world in a different way,” Mr Gaglioti said. “My psychologi­st said to me you can think of it as sometimes things happen for a reason.”
