Georgia eyes biggest win

-

HELENSVALE bowler Georgia White is on the verge of her biggest success when she takes on world under-25 champion Ellen Ryan in the Australian Open singles final at Broadbeach today.

White moved into the decider with a clinical 21-15 win over fellow Queenslander Sue Brady, of Mareeba.

Ryan, who beat South African representative Elma Davis 21-11 in her semi-final, has a busy schedule today.

The 20-year-old from Goulburn in NSW plays the singles final at 11am followed by a pairs semi-final at 2.30pm and the fours final this afternoon.

White’s Helensvale clubmate Nathan Rice continued his top form by making the semi-finals of the men’s singles to be played today.

Rice will tackle Australian teammate Wayne Ruediger, while in the other semi-final, 2015 champion

Aaron Teys will play Nathan Pedersen.

Ryan and White’s red-hot singles form has translated into success in the team events as well with the pair set to square off in the women’s fours final after contrasting semi-finals at Club Helensvale yesterday.

Ryan, along with Julie Keegan and Kay Moran, was a member of Karen Murphy’s side which led from start to finish over Coolum Beach’s Louise Witton, Marilyn Clayton, Annie McGill and Liza Burgess; eventually winning 16-12.

In the other semi, defending champions White, Tiffany Brodie, Amelia Bruggy and Chloe Stewart were behind all match before claiming victory on the final end against their NSW rivals.

The women’s pairs section is down to the last four with a potential repeat of the 2016 final looming.

Defending champions Anne Johns and Bec Van Asch will meet Brodie and Stewart today, while last year’s runners-up Ryan and Keegan will face off with Australia’s No.1 and No.2 ranked female bowlers Carla Krizanic and Natasha Scott.
