Adam head over heels at the line

BLOOD, sweat, vomit tears where all shed at marathon at the weekend.

While hundreds limped, wobbled and crawled exhausted and wide-eyed over the finishing line for both the 21.1km and 42.2km events yesterday, Adam Tomlinson had one of the biggest stumbles of the day.

The 34-year-old had pushed himself so hard he fell to the ground and hit his head on the pavement, opening up his forehead. Then he began to convulse on the ground.

But within seconds the machine operator regained his composure and was wheeled to the medical tent by St Johns Ambulance volunteers.

That’s when he said he was stoked to have run a personal best in the half marathon.

“Last year was 1.51 hours and I’m pretty sure I got under that this time,” he said. “The last hundred metres I started to feel a little faint though.”

A doctor stationed at the event handing out vomit bags to finishers said: “They’ll crawl over the line if they need to.

“They just want to get over the line. When they do we just pick them up and help them out.” and the
