Migaloo on track for Coast arrival

-

EXCITED Gold Coast whale watchers will today be keeping their eyes peeled for famed white humpback Migaloo as he makes his migration north.

Migaloo was spotted off the coast of Port Macquarie on Saturday and has been tipped to reach the Gold Coast around lunchtime today – although predicting the arrival of whales is not an exact science.

Sea World Gold Coast Marine Sciences director Trevor Long said whales typically moved at three to four knots per hour but they could “stop and mill around” during their journey.

Mr Long has been fortunate to see the rare white whale many times.

“To be able to see any animal such as Migaloo, it’s like a neon light underwater,” he said. “It’s just amazing.”
