Fears over bananas
A CAVENDISH banana farm near Tully in north Queensland has tested positive for the devastating Panama disease.
The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries confirmed the detection of Panama disease tropical race 4 yesterday, two years after it threatened to wipe out the industry.
Biosecurity Queensland’s Jim Thompson said it would take between four and six weeks for the conclusive result.
“The property owners are working with Biosecurity Queensland to control and contain any disease and mitigate the risk of further spread,” he said in a statement.
