Cops probe hat assault

POLICE are investigating claims a woman was punched in the face at Carrara Markets on Sunday after a dispute over a hat.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said officers were investigating reports a woman was trying on a hat when she ran away from the shop without paying.

The shopkeeper held on to the woman’s friend, allegedly causing the shoplifter to return and punch the shopkeeper.

The stall owner is then said to have run after her attacker to retrieve the hat.

Police said there was a person of interest in the case.
