YES TO DONOR DRESSES

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND amanda.robbemond@news.com.au

THAT gorgeous gown hidden in the back of your wardrobe could be a teenager’s treasure as they head off to their end-ofyear formal.

Pimpama mum Carol Millar has been collecting second-hand dresses in her garage to donate to students and their families most in need.

Aimed at teenager’s whose parents cannot afford the often exorbitant expense of a new gown, the mother-of-three allows students to use the donated gowns for free.

“I’ve had 160 gowns donated,” said Ms Millar of The Gift of the Gown, adding they were of all different sizes and styles.

She said she didn’t charge a fee because the gowns were donated and it was a way of paying the kindness forward.

“I only offer the service to school girls and their families for end-of-year formals,” she said.

She also vetted families out to some degree before agreeing to let them take their dream gown home to ensure they really did need the dress, she said.

Former client Rachel Ely, 16, said being able to wear the dress free of charge was “really good”.

“I probably wouldn’t have been able to afford the dress right now, it was really good,” she said.

Ms Millar said gowns could be dropped off at any Neweys Dry Cleaners store.
