Rider flown to hospital

A GOLD Coast man is fighting for life after a crash at a Stanthorpe speedway on Saturday.

The man, aged in his 60s, was riding at the “Big Chill” interclub race meeting at the Carnell Raceway and is believed to have collided with a concrete barrier while racing.

Paramedics treated the man until critical care officers arrived. He had several trauma injuries, including to his chest.

Initially transported by road to Stanthorpe Hospital, the man was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane. Management at the Carnell Speedway were unable to be contacted for comment.
