Rider flown to hospital

A GOLD Coast man is fighting for life after a crash at a Stanthorpe speedway on Saturday.

The man, aged in his 60s, was riding at the “Big Chill” interclub race meeting at the Carnell Raceway and is believed to have collided with a concrete barrier while racing.

Paramedics treated the man until critical care officers arrived. He had several trauma injuries, including to his chest.

Initially transporte­d by road to Stanthorpe Hospital, the man was airlifted to the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane. Management at the Carnell Speedway were unable to be contacted for comment.
