It was great fun for St Francis Xavier students and their parents and helped schools in Ghana

PARENTS sent their children back to school so they could enjoy a kid-free night of fun.
It was part of St Francis Xavier School’s annual Date Night to raise money to support Ghanaian schools.
Participating families donated $35 so the parents could enjoy a night to themselves or an evening out.
About 270 students joined in on Date Night to raise over $5000 for the New Beginnings International Charity’s Triple L Project, which supplies books and computers to Ghana.
Students had the chance to enjoy themselves by dancing, doing karaoke, playing indoor handball and colouring in while over 30 staff supervised them and made sure they had a blast.
Everyone enjoyed a sausage sizzle, a drink and popcorn, while the teachers were offered some chocolate for their work.
Date Night was introduced to St Francis Xavier by Year 6 teacher Kristian Braeuer.
“The generosity of our staff and the excitement of the kids is incredible,” he said. “It’s quite humbling to know so many people are so committed to helping the children of Ghana.”
In total, St Francis Xavier’s Date Nights have raised over $25,000, which has provided over 30 school libraries with between 250-350 books and 15 computers, plus more to come from this year’s funds.
Abbie Briant, the student leader for the Social Justice Committee who assisted Mr Braeuer, said everyone had fun.
“I especially enjoyed spending time with friends,” Abbie said.
