WHIMPEY: Mayor Tom Tate has offered a heartfelt thank you to the man who helped him save his wife’s life. Mayoress Ruth Tate had a heart attack earlier this month while the couple were transiting through Singapore Airport. Thanks to the training he’d received from CPR instructor Scott Whimpey, from First Aid Accident and Emergency, Cr Tate was able to revive his wife. “At the time of training, most people are quite shocked and feel the role play puts them out of their comfort zone, but this case with the Mayor is exactly why we do it, it really puts everything into perspective and makes the first aider respond effectively,” Mr Whimpey said. Mr Whimpey and the Mayor also discussed additional training for his office and future plans to implement technology for identifying a defibrillator location on the Gold Coast.
